If the weather is really good and the umbrella is not so heavy, you do not need any other weight. A square stand is better than a round stand, and the overall height is better, not taller than 18in.
I needed a smaller table to hold my 9 ft patio umbrella, and I was worried this might not hold up in the windy suburb of Chicago where I live. But - with some modifications - it is very sturdy. I assembled it today and as another reviewer mentioned, I decided to use my heavy umbrella stand under it, instead of the metal frame they provide. It barely fit; I had to remove the bottom screws on one side panel to allow for the stand to fit while allowing all table legs to stand firmly. It looks fine - in the back so I don't notice the slight tilting out of the panel. I put the umbrella in the table and stand, tightened the stand to the umbrella and opened it, and despite the gusty winds, the umbrella stood firm. I closed the umbrella and the table held it very firm, no movement at all, and it's been very windy out, so I'm impressed with the table, mainly glad that its design is flexible enough to accommodate a stand underneath it. And it looks nice, very clean and classic.

Relatively easy to assemble. One screw would not go into the too small hole. The table is sturdy nonetheless. I am using it for a tabletop fire pit and it is perfect for that.
Purchased this to match our other outdoor furniture grouping and to hold the umbrella over it all.
Pretty and easy to assemble, but one side is a wee bit lower than the other which is not noticeable unless it's windy and then the umbrella leans.
